Mount Precipice: Where Nazareth Meets the Valley

Mount Precipice, Nazareth, Israel

Mount Precipice rises at the southern edge of Nazareth, offering panoramic views of the Jezreel Valley and a connection to one of the more dramatic moments in the Gospels. According to the Gospel of Luke, after Jesus preached in the Nazareth synagogue and was rejected by his own townspeople, an angry crowd drove him to the edge of a cliff intending to throw him off. Jesus, the text says, “passed through their midst” and walked away.

The View

Whatever you make of the story, the view from Mount Precipice is undeniable. The entire Jezreel Valley spreads out below, with Mount Tabor rising to the east, Givat HaMoreh nearby, and the Carmel ridge to the west. On a clear day, you can trace the ancient Via Maris trade route across the valley floor. Pope Benedict XVI celebrated Mass here in 2009, and a chapel marks the site.

Visit with Hoshen Tours

Mount Precipice is a natural addition to a Nazareth visit, combining the Gospel story with one of the best viewpoints in the lower Galilee.
