Yardenit is the main baptismal site on the Jordan River, located where the river flows out of the Sea of Galilee. Thousands of Christian pilgrims visit each year to be baptized in the same river where John baptized Jesus, wearing white robes and stepping into waters that have carried spiritual significance for over two thousand years.
The Site
Yardenit was established in 1981 as an accessible baptism site, with steps leading down into the river, changing facilities, and a shop selling baptismal robes and certificates. The Jordan at this point is calm, tree-lined, and wide enough to accommodate groups, making it the most popular baptism location in Israel.
Walls along the entrance display the verse “Jesus was baptized in the Jordan” in over 100 languages, a visual reminder of the global reach of Christianity.
Visit with Hoshen Tours
